https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Antonio-Scazzarriello3
English version:
However, I was the only one, among the 25 Italian and Spanish nurses recruited by Moorfields Eye Hospital a year and a half ago, intended to work in the famous St. George’s Hospital, in the multiethnic borough of Tooting Broadway.
1) Ok, let’s start. Introduce yourself to the people who don’t know you!
My name is Antonio Scazzarriello,I am Italian and I work as a nurse for Moorfields Eye Hospital. I’m actually based in St. George’s Hospital, one of the many Moorfields satellites.
I also have type 1 diabetes.
2) What is your iniziative?
On the 31st of July, I will take part to one of the most fascinating, exciting and inspirational sportive events organized in London, the Prudential Ride London – Surrey 100. This cycling event has now reached the 4th year and something like 25.000 amateurs and 150 professional cyclist will take part to it.
The Prudential Ride London – Surrey starts in Queen Elizabeth Onympic Park and then follows a 100 – mile route on closed roads throught the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside.
The aim of my fundraising initiative is making more people aware of the existence of JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and to contribute with your support to the JDRF research project by fundraising at least 500 £.
3) Why are you taking part to this initiative?
I took part to the Prudential Ride twice already and this year I decided to take part of it because it is amazing to see so many cyclists all together at the same time cycling for different causes and charities.
It is also wonderful to see so many people in the streets cheering and pushing us to go even faster and not to give up.
But it is also a great event to promote sport and to inspire more people to take part to the cycling event and to fundraise money for any charity you like or you feel close to. By the way, I was really impressed by the fact that there is a cycling team, entirely made of diabetic athletes: the Novo Nordisk cycling team.
Another reason for taking part of it?
I love fitness and cycling (i can guarantee, he grabbed me, almost literally, last winter to walk 22 – yes, 22! – miles across London for the Moorfields Eye to Eye walk).
On that day I will be free to cycle and I will have the roads free of traffic.
As being personally involved because of my condition, I believe that taking part to this event would also encourage and inspire more people, especially diabetic people, to do the same, to take part in sport and to continue to chase their dreams.
4) How can we contribute? How much did you fundraise last year?
Last year I took part to the same cycling event witha different charity and I was not able to reach the target of £ 500 but still the £ 250 donated did help the research projects.
This year I hope I will be able to achieve the £ 500 target.
To contribute to this great cause and to help me to reach the target, you can contribute by making a small donation through my Justgiving page:
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Antonio-Scazzarriello3
Any donation, even small, will contribute to the amazing work that JDRF is doing to try to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
In the meantime, I will continue with my training…
Thank you all for your support and kind donation!
Good luck to you, Antonio!
